Economics and the Complexity of Life

This is going to sound really dumb, but life is really complicated! I never realized that everything comes with a cost. Many of you are probably thinking, "Well, duh, Emily. We've been in AP Econ for almost a full year. How can you not know that?" Yes, we learn this in a classroom, but in reality I never actually thought about all of the different bills my parents have to pay just to get the garbage taken out or to have electricity. Obviously, I take too many things for granted...

... Which is something I am trying to do less of. So, I plan on doing things that will increase my awareness of what is going on around me and increase my appreciate for life. For example, washing the dishes after dinner. My mom usually does this dirge of a task because I am always able to abscond into my study room with the excuse "oh save me! I have too much homework!". Well, those days are over. I am going to help out around the house until I graduate!

A toast to not taking life and family for granted! :)

Econ does put life into perspective sometimes. Like doing this budget project, I have a decently good income, and money is still scarce. It makes me wonder how my parents used to handle having to take care of me, my brother, and all the bills they had to pay with the little income they used to get.

I kind of want to agree with you about not taking my parents for granted, but I'm still kind of hating them right now about college crap. Maybe later...
